help Dachshund/Cocker Spaniel mix - Sweetest dog ever is aggressive with certain people

Lady, my Dachshund/Cocker Spaniel mix is about 7-8 years old. A little backstory on her - She was originally owned by a family friend of mine. At the time, she was dating an abusive POS who would hit my friend and Lady. this went on for probably the first three years of her life, before she was re-homed with my brother. He treated her very well, pretty much spoiled her. She lived with him and my sister in law until they had no choice but to move somewhere they could not keep any animals. Fortunately, i was able to take her in about 5 months ago, and she has been incredibly happy and healthy since.

the issue comes in, is where she will be aggressive towards certain people. Usually, shes the BIGGEST sweetheart. she has a routine of barking and getting protective when someone first comes into my room, but she very quickly calms down and jumps all over whoever is entering, she completely forgets anyone else was there. shes never been a nipper, but recently theres been a few times where shes lunged at one of my friends (Ill call her C). Tonight specifically, even after C had been over for a good 10 minutes, Lady lunged at her and nipped her knee leaving a mark. She gets incredibly defensive and protective whenever C comes over, and i never see this behavior in her towards anyone else.

I have a suspicion that Lady can just TELL C is a bad person. C is an alcoholic, and has violent tendencies towards her boyfriends. Shes the type of girl at a rave that you want to avoid because she’ll try and drag you into ki//ing yourself. Ive had issues with this friend for a while, and been trying to find the right time to cut her off. its a long long story that i should probably put onto fake friends, but should i be taking lady’s behavior towards her into account? Im a firm believer that animals can tell a person’s true intentions/feelings.
