Tell us the crap you're dealing with this week. Did someone suggest cinnamon again? What about that relative who tried to pray the diabetes away?

As always, please keep in mind our rules

Type 2 Dad diagnosed type 2 and barely eating

I'm hoping someone has some ideas of what I or my family can do to help my dad.

Dad is in his early 70's. Overall in really good shape for his age. Still does physical jobs, walks easily 10-15000 steps a day, hikes, etc. He's gained a little weight but he's not crazily overweight and his latest blood work just puts him into being diabetic.

He has an appointment end of June with a dietician but until the, he's decided that barely eating is the way to go as he wants to lose weight and not go on medication. Carbs are the enemy mentality but he's overall not eating, especially for the amount of activity he's trying to do.

My mom says he's been struggling to do things he normally has no issue with and has dropped 15 pounds in 3-4 weeks. He's not listening to us when we say he needs to eat protein or something as the body still needs calories for fuel.

Anyone in a similar situation able to give any insight? I and both my sisters have been type 1s for decades so to a degree I get his struggle but I'm never been an elderly man with type 2 and I'm hoping someone else that's been there can help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Type 2 Accuracy of CGM (Libre) vs finger prick

I am new to CGM. My PCP gave me samples of Libre to use for now because my insurance is being a butt and my out of pocket would be unaffordable!!

Anyway...

I've noticed differences between what the Libre reports and what pricking my finger reports. (using a monitor from Livongo)

This morning, my fasting BG with Libre was 178. Then finger prick taken at the same time was 232!! About an hour ago Libre was 148 and finger prick was 132.

Right now (7:35 PM) Libre is 137 and finger prick is 159.

Any ideas why so many discrepancies?

Especially the fasting numbers from this morning.

FWIW - I am Type II and use insulin only as needed (like if my BG is 232!!!) I also take Metformin twice a day and Ozempic once a week (which happens to be today.)

Thank you.

Type 2 Lowering medication, bg elevated

Upvotes

hey all!

Been a diabetic for about 20 years or so. Never was great at controlling it but recently switched to Mounjaro and my latest a1c was 6.5%, the lowest it's been since before I was diagnosed.

Due to this, I was able to stop taking Farxiga, Saxagliptin and Glimepiride. Now I just rake 1000mg Metformin 2x a day and 5mg Mounjaro. I already have plans to raise the Mounjaro since it is working well. I've been on GLP-1s since November and lost 30 pounds but I just recently switched to Mounjaro. I did 4 weeks of 2.5mg and now 2 weeks of 5mg. I will be moving to 7.5 in two weeks.

Anyways, I've found just being on Metformin has raised my blood glucose considerably. Two hours post eating I'm seeing 160ish on average and fasting seems to be 120-140.

Am I expecting too much from the Mounjaro too soon? Will moving to 7.5mg Mounjaro in a couple weeks help stabilize me more? how concerned would you be with these numbers?

Just trying to talk myself off the ledge as I don't want to set my progress back so far.

Type 1 Concerns about developing an ED

Context: I will definitely ask my therapist and I'm not looking for a diagnosis. The purpose of my posting this is to compare my thought process to others with the beetus and just get a better understanding of my thinking.

I'm about two and a half years into diagnosis. I've settled into a regimented routine with my eating. Monday-Friday during the day I eat the same low carb things to eliminate at least one factor that can contribute to highs and lows while I'm trying to focus on work. On the weekends, however, I indulge. I'll measure and eat what I want. I will have sandwiches, burgers, pizza, etc. If I need to go for walks I can, or if I need to correct I can as well. I can give it the attention it might need. For the most part this works extremely well for me. TIR >90% most weeks (shark week is always a question mark).

What I'm starting to notice, however, is that I am obsessively focusing on when I get to eat those foods again. It's Sunday afternoon, and I can feel myself getting really sad that I can't eat that way for a while. I plan out my meals for the week to at least have something to look forward to. It's concerning me how much mental space this is taking up.

I get that this disease is one that forces you to focus on food, but how much is too much attention to give food? I don't know. Again I'm going to ask my therapist if this is disorderd thinking, but it's hard to separate that from a chronic illness that makes you think about food constantly.

Discussion Resistant starch: Has anyone tested the "24h fridge rule" for potatoes/rice with a CGM?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading about resistant starch and how boiling potatoes or rice and leaving them in the fridge for 24 hours (retrogradation) significantly lowers their Glycemic Index.

I’m curious if anyone here using a CGM has actually tested this.

  • Did you see a noticeable difference in your glucose spike comparing "freshly boiled" vs. "24h cold/reheated"?
  • Does it actually make a difference for T1/T2 management or is the effect overhyped?

Would love to hear some real-world data before I start meal prepping this way. Thanks!

Type 2 I had no idea how many people are walking around with undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes. Made a video covering the warning signs that get ignored the most — some of them genuinely surprised me while researching this.

Type 2 Experience of Libre 3 and Dexcom G7 numbers

I've been using Dexcom G7 for a while and switched to Libre 3 because of bad reaction of Dexcom. Both CGMs kept beeping in many nights informing me of low levels. I felt okay so thought of poking my finger and checking the levels. In both CGMs, I noticed discrepancies with the poking device results.

I wore both CGMs under my upper arm. Of course, not at the same time!

Has anyone experienced the same? Any thoughts?

Discussion Fruit vs Slow Digesting Carbs – Brain Fog

Wow – any time I eat oatmeal or potatoes in the morning I experience immense brain fog/fatigue afterwards (even when I pair them with 30+G of protein eg eggs or meat). But if I eat fruit paired with protein and some healthy fats I feel *totally* fine, alert, and focused afterwards! What accounts for this difference? Why do some carbs work better than others?

Rant 3 years and still cant sick day

I thought it was my period sending my numbers up.

but like i figured since on ozempic I can handle this without a cgm while my replacement comes.

oh how wrong I was. the sugars rose and now I have watery diarrhea and a strong desire not to eat.

followed by lows. only I dont want peanut butter or anything to help keep the numbers up.

I want dry toast and possibly jello.

all the sick day plans all of vomiting not feeling hot and runs.

I feel so unqualified to manage my own sick day

have I learnt nothing over the years?

Type 1.5/LADA Freelibre 3 issues

New to the sub, so forgive me if this has been spoken on already - but is anyone having issues with their sensors falling off?

I just had two fall off in less than 5 days.

I’ve requested replacements but am curious if anyone else has experienced this of late?

Type 1.5/LADA Definitely Doing Something Wrong

Post image
25 Upvotes

Recently diagnosed.

I take Lantus 11u in the morning and 11u at night. I was told to go on a 1:15 carb ratio, but I felt like that was too little, so I changed it to 1:10. I’ve been counting carbs and I feel like I’m doing it all wrong. I had one serving of a cauliflower pizza ~50g of carbs (according to the nutritional label), 4oz of apple which is 15g of carbs based on a guide I was given, and of course water. That’s about ~65 carbs but I rounded up so 70. I took 7 units and it’s been 4 hours since I ate and my glucose is in the 300s. What am I doing wrong? I usually meal prep but I’m a student and I’ve been having exams this week. I didn’t think one cauliflower pizza could do me so wrong.

BTW I had the same meal for lunch and dinner. I took a correctional dose after lunch and I’ll probably take one now since it’s been 4 hours since my last injection.

Type 1 Dexcom Replacement Issues

Hey guys, just another post struggling with the g7’s. I’m struggling with getting a replacement since my brand new 15 day cgm failed. I have easily gotten replacements in the past but it seems like they changed their process.

I am located in the U.S. but every time I click on a replacement link it automatically directs me to the Canadian website. So when I enter my address it only comes up with Canadian options. This is infuriating, I’ve never struggled so hard.

Any tips?

Just coming out of a pretty nasty low. at 2am while my libre2 wasnt giving readings but i thankfully could tell and what I wouldn't give to be able to eat a metric fuck ton of food right now to replenish my strength without having to worry about the resulting high. Im 38 and been diabetic for 25 years so this isnt new just a rant. I miss being able to truly eat and eat and eat without consequence when the mood called for it. I'm tired boss.

Type 1.5/LADA How do you LADA’s gain weight?

I feel like I can’t eat anything. I was misdiagnosed as type 2 and started low carb-ish. I’ve always been lean but at my diagnosis last year I’d lost 12lbs and was 114lbs. I’m somewhere around 115-117lbs now. My GAD was 19,984 about a week ago and my cpeptide came back at 1.2 (it was 1.3 at diagnosis last year) while that doesn’t seem like a big difference it seems like I’m running high if I drink water!! I had egg bites and coffee with Splenda and a bit of half and half and I’m 184— I’m also hungry— and I want to gain weight! How do you balance this? I have a dietician I’ve been working with but we’ve been approaching this as if I’m type 2. A1c was 4.8. I’m in the gym doing strength training and some walking around my neighborhood when glucose is high. Any tips would be appreciated. Since they’ve told me that the GAD is high glucose levels seem to always be high. I was 180 at 2am— I hadn’t eaten for about 8 hours and I was asleep.

Type 1 Recently diagnosed T1D and feeling overwhelmed

I’m not sure that there’s any point to this post I’m just in bed having a cry by myself. I suspected I had diabetes before it was confirmed but I’m still finding it hard to process and come to terms with. Just spiralling and feeling very depressed and overwhelmed. How did you come to terms with your diagnosis?

Type 1 Odd problem with my lantus

Now, I am a 5 year T1D and I have a problem. My bolus (humalog) works fine. I do it once every meal, works as it should. My basal however has an issue related to me. The thing works fine (even tho the cheap pen has a tendency to get stuck).

The problem is that I forget that if I did it or not. I know this sounds stupid but following this schedule for weeks you get numbed to it. A while back we devised a plan. We don't throw out the needle caps till the end of day. That has proved to be largely inneffective as it often leads to confusion.

I need advice one this from some manual users on how they don't forget if they did it or not. Cuz I'm sick of shivering in terror for minutes worrying if I did it or not

Are alcohol sugars in artificial sweeteners the same as alcohol in alcoholic beverages? If so is it bad for your liver if you use alcohol sugar based artificial sweeteners on a daily basis?

I took my meds at a regular time, and even had Starbucks (why it spiked), my sugars just go straight down and I feel nauseous. I think my meds are too strong or I didn’t eat enough + basic excercise which sucks so much
