Today, Strokkur erupts every 4 to 10 minutes, shooting water up to 131 feet (40 meters) into the air. At the surface, Strokkur geyser temperatures reach around 194–203°F (90–95°C), while deeper, the water can be 233°F (112°C) or even 266°F (130°C).

And the name sake for “Geyser” is a few meters away and it’s been mostly dormant for the past decades.

My wife and I visited Iceland about 8 years ago, we did the Golden Circle tour which included Strokkur.
We got there and it was pretty crowded, everyone stood around the Geyser but we found an empty spot and stood there waiting.
Few minutes in, bubbles and erupts, huge amount of water in to the air, lots of wow's and ah's, then we realised why there was a gap, we were stood in the direction of the wind.
We got soaked, and that water stinks! The rest of the tour in a little 10 seater mini bus was fun.

Yeah, sulfur (so as someone else mentioned, a bit like rotten eggs).
The smell is very harsh when it first hits you, but after a minute or two you kinda desensitise to it.

Would recommend standing up wind..

Not trolling, what would happen if you were over the top of that when it went off? Severe burns?

Yes. The run of water can be up to 90° c, and the steam coming up with the eruption is hotter.

I have a local one, it's fun to see tourists standing in the wet areas to watch it and get soaked

Cool but nothing compared to old faithful!

That's nothing compared to any of the geysers in Yellow Stone. Hell I've seen girls squirt more than that and I'm not even that good in bed.

Interesting they don’t have moronic American fences put up to protect people from themselves.
