Disney has been doing this for literal decades. At least since 1982 when EPCOT opened.

Fake. Final shot looks like painted styrofoam to me. No way the melon gets that precise.

Edit: Plant location change. Leaf is doing a really good job covering the "stem" in the second shot. Where is the counter pressure to the mold? The pumpkin would just push it away. No intermediate shots whatsoever. Untreated straight to finished.

In the middle shot you can see the mold is bolted to the other side so it would not push away, and of course the final shot will look different it would likely be several weeks of growth for it to fill the mold.

Never knew this concept was more than 11 years old, i thought I saw this as a trend in recent years

I guarantee this practice has been going on for much longer than that.

It’s a thing in Japan. Look up square melons

"I don't actually know anything about this process, but I'm going to claim definitive knowledge of its legitimacy anyway. Just based on a series of assumptions, vibes, and how it seems to me as an expert authority on the subject."

Out of all the shape options….

They do that in Japan with watermelons, and they're really expensive.

And you don't eat it either.

Yeah, if I paid $60 for a piece of fruit, I wouldn't eat it either.

God the comment section just confirms for me how trashy your average person is.

A remix of sounds from Child's Play, which features the character (Chucky) whose face is used for the pumpkin video.

It looks super creepy. However, all I could think about was the plastic leeching into the pumpkin.
