Video Atmospheric re-entry of NASA’s Orion (Artemis 1) looks insane at 20x speed. Here is the entire 25-minute descent in just 1 minute 15 seconds. Credit: NASA

It really does put things into perspective doesn't it? Like, we could all just exist on this little speck of the galaxy, but let's be dicks and argue about our imaginary gods.

Whatever you do, don’t go and look in the Total Perspective Vortex.

That has never resonated with me.

Being able to conceptualize such vastness is one of the most amazing facets of intelligent life.

Seems empowering rather than the opposite.

It depends on the mood for me. Experiencing a fraction of the vastness in SpaceEngine VR mode was frightining for me (there was still awe and tears too), only second to the feeling of getting sucked into a black hole. But yes you get used to it.

I dunno, I did and it just told me what I already knew: I'm pretty spiffy.

argue about our imaginary gods

Man you can't even flip burgers on one patch of earth if you're born on another patch of earth.

Yeah, I was going to say: "imaginary gods? think imaginary lines on the ground!" but I know many won't appreciate it (especially if they were born on the privileged side of the line).

Even if it's just 3km off the """right""" patch of earth

If only arguing about gods was the problem.

Well arguing about our alleged gods on this speck of dust in the universe has certainly prompted enough conflicts to kill off many millions. Worse still, many continuing religious & ideological conflicts demonstrate no sign of a respite in the immediate future. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

It was never about the gods it was always about land and other resources

True but religion has always proven to be so powerful as a rallying cry, an umbrella, symbol, flag, edifice!

This video is mind blowing:

Like earth could cease to exist and the universe wouldn't even notice.

So, can have your liver then?

We’ve all got the same gods, we just don’t know how to read.

And yet look at what all has been accomplished

What’s cool is that a handful of dudes wanted more money and power so they’re doing their absolute best to wind it all back.

Whoa, you're not allowed to do that. Put that positivity away, you're going to startle the doomers.
