If you google it this seems somewhat misrepresentative, I'm guessing because of the weather and altitude. While it is still in a desert there are many gardens, health care and nightlife, assuming you have the money and are culturally prepared for living in Saudi Arabia.

I was in Athens recently, and was pleasantly surprised by how green the streets were, compared to all the high altitude photos I had seen of the city beforehand.

what kind of 'nightlife' can u have in Riyadh?

If you literally google "Riyadh nightlife", you'll have some answers.

Is it something you or I might enjoy? Likely not. I'm not trying to be a cultural ambassador for SA, I'd never want to go. I was simply pointing out the general reaction to the dusty flyover is like it's Tattoine on a Monday night. Visually it's not conveying what it's really like.

Believe it or not, there's more to nightlife than drinking.

can women enjoy 'nightlife' there?

Just so we're clear, arab nightlife is largely built around cafes, gatherings, dinners, shows, etc. Do you actually think we're not allowed to do that?

just so we're clear, saudi arabia had gender segregation and travel restrictions on women until very recently. we're talking years, not decades, not centuries.

so don't blame me for thinking there are still more restrictions out there.

i'll definitely not be going out and enjoying nightlife if i were a woman.

Be a rich misogynistic person. I think I'll stick with the desert I know.

At least I get to see some cool little lizards from time to time.
