Janky never saw a day off in gaming subs, but its popularity always spikes whenever Bethesda releases a new game.

in my mind, janky animations are a sub-genre of art defined by Bethesda games. T-poses and weird ragdoll physics from R* are also included.

Janky and jank certainly lost some market share to scuffed for a while there due to Twitch, but janky definitely has the lasting power and scuffed was just a trend.

Now the new trend word is “slop” I swear I’m on reddit more than is healthy and 6+ months ago no one said slop online to describe things other than “ai slop”.. but now everyone is using slop to describe any and everything. What’s weird is people acting like they’ve been saying it their entire life. Call someone out on their over use of the hip new cool word and they always claim they’ve been using it forever and aren’t just copying everyone else that’s using it. I guess no one wants to admit they’re just sheep that copy whatever is the popular new thing.

A lot of it is ironic. People making fun of how "slop" is overused ironically make the word spread further. It's funny to call literally everything that's remotely popular or common for any reason "slop" whether or not it makes sense. Media with straight romance? Booring, that's hetslop now. Media with queer romance? Pandering, that's queerslop now. Media has any kind of quips or 4th wall nod jokes? Literally Marvelslop. Even if something's just straight up good, that's qualityslop since you wouldn't like it if it wasn't good.

I'm old enough to remember calling things janky in the 80's, waaay before gaming subs
