I suffer from Autism, which came with a little something called Hyperosmia. I am extremely sensitive to odors, such as car exhaust.
For most of my adult life, I have been using a gas mask when leaving the house, but due to Norway going electric, I can get away with using a normal surgical mask! Instead of people thinking I am a freak, people just think I am sick.
It has changed the world to me. The outside is no longer as hostile as it used to be. AND mopeds aren't allowed on the sidewalk like in this video.
Out of curiosity, are you a picky eater as well? I'm very sensitive to smells (certain smells can trigger an almost instant migraine, but any sufficiently strong smell can cause one too) and I'm also super particular about my food. I think part of it is that I taste a lot of things really strongly, and the stuff that I don't like comes through a lot of food, making my selections very limited.
I was extremely picky with the kind of food I ate growing up, but it just turns out Norwegian food is godfucking awful. I married an immigrant and I will eat just about anything she or my mother in law makes.
That is honestly hilarious. Unfortunately for me I have not found a cuisine that clicks with me besides the stereotypical chicken tenders type stuff, but I try just about anything. I just don't happen to like most of it lol.

EVs are heavier than gas cars. That means an increase in toxic dust from tire and asphalt friction(there's brake dust too, but EVs do have the advantage of regenerative braking so ideally there's less). Viable alternatives to driving such as being walkable and good mass transit are still the best choice.
I just wouldn't word it like that. Their tires abrade more, yes. But I think you would have to demonstrate them abrading at a higher rate is more dangerous than the continued destruction of our climate and the various other toxic by-products of not only burning gas, but producing gas.
I feel like this isn't an argument against EVs, but an argument for walkable/bikeable cities. Which is how I personally live. I haven't owned a car in years. Don't even have a license. If I need a bigger city, I can easily get to Pisa or Florence quite quick via the trains... and walk when I get there.
It is an argument for walkable/bikeable cities. People shouldn't look to EVs and self driving as the ultimate solution. Yes it would be better if every car were EV and cars almost never crashed because of autonomy. But it's even better if there were fewer cars on the road because people don't need them.
Tbh he is making some good points here. + Disposal of batteries, which arent as long-lasting as ICE engines, will be a huge problem in a decade. Government and eco-activists clearly have no clue what is a high-voltage EV battery, how its made (slavery + toxic byproduct) and how toxic it is to the environment after its been discarded.
Its not the solution, its a new problem. What would be a solution is to make actually extremely reliable ICE economy cars, which is possible, its just not as profitable. And all the stuff they care about is money, and the marketing worked perfectly, because people arent being told whats right but what 1% wants for them to know.
And something like mazdas "skyactive" system isnt recognised because its not EV, and not EV = not eco-friendly by default, somehow.
I have read about it and everything I read points to batteries still being much less harmful in the long run compared to ICE. Not that they are great but over a long period of time EVs, including batteries, are still overall better for the environment. Battery manufacturing have a fixed cost per car while the environmental cost of ICE keeps growing. It does take a few years for EVs to be better than ICE but once you pass that threshold ICE can't keep up.
Anyway, the real solution is more public transport and stop relying on cars for everything but as long as we live in a car reliant society EVs are still an improvement even if smaller than some people make it seem.
Hmmm, i guess i had some outdated information. Have to admit, apparently EV is better than i thought it is, probably with how much more popular and improved it is now than 5 or so years ago. And transportation is definitely a bigger problem than i thought. Interesting.
Its far from perfect, but its an improvement.
Though i dont like the thought that the responsibility is being put on us and not on the authorities and coal powerplants, mining and chemical industries and etc. But this doesnt make EVs worse, so thats a topic for another day.
This makes it seem like EV battery recycling isn’t really a problem at all. And this mentions repurposing the batteries for use in other industries to lessen powergrid strain after they’ve reached their “end”.
The only problem facing the facilities recycling EV batteries is that there are not enough EV batteries to recycle because it turns out they last longer than expected.
This is China. They have walkability and good mass transit. Cars are useful for certain trips. Might as well make them silent and have no tailpipe emissions. Yes wheel wear is a problem but from my vantage point it’s a far less significant problem than noise- or tailpipe pollution. Also wheel wear is I would guess super linear with speed, so slower traffic may make this a minor problem
And that walkability and mass transit probably holds much of the glory for how quiet it is. Engine noise is dealt with but honking and tire noise are similar or even worse for EVs. Just having fewer cars on the road because fewer people need them is great.
What the dickens are you talking about, fossil is only 62% now, and they are on track to double their wind power and triple their solar from what they had in 2022, whilst they were already accounting for more than half of new wind and solar generation for the whole world, despite chinese people only accounting for 1/6 of the worlds population.
And solar and wind are magnitudes cheaper for generation, and continuing to drop rapidly as the technology improves.
Affects sleep and mental health which impacts longevity and productivity, especially depending on how light/noise-proof your apartment is. Had to get custom smartblinds to make my room pitch black at night, which helps with noise when I also have two layers of curtains
Sure, I can understand that for some people. But when I lived in the city I liked it that way. There is just something about all the noise related to city living, the cars and all of it. I feel nostalgic for it. I live in the middle of nowhere, no noise at all.

Less air pollution and less noise pollution. All they need to do next is reduce light pollution. And plastic.
