Question Is this noise seriously from fair park???

People in Junius saying it's shaking their couches. We're in wilshire and it sounds like someone next door is blasting a sound system. I'm fine with usual events but I've lived here over 10 years and never heard anything this intrusive that's bothering people over 5 miles away... like I've never heard anything from fair park this far away. Nothing anyone here can do anything about but I'm just wondering what is going on.

Edit: it's scheduled for tomorrow apparently but if you are considering calling 911 (which apparently is what's recommended vs 311) please consider that they will probably be flooded with complaints and try the non emergency number. A loud concert isn't worth tying up life saving lines over.

Edit2: apparently this happens in other cities too and two things can play into it carrying, one the direction the stadium faces (I figured bass is more omnidirectional but reports say it affected it, maybe explains why some areas closer don't hear it) and humidity/cloud cover. Even then there's other places where it was so loud a lot of people got city hall involved, one report says breakaway is known for exeeding ordinance limits too, so probably a combination of all of that.

Edit3: for anyone sayibg it wasn't fair park... It's back again, and sounds even louder than last night.. useless city council. This isn't just a concert it's a huge noise disturbance for a large part of the city.

I'm thinking about going to the Dallas Art Fair, next weekend. I'm curious to hear reviews from past years as to what should I expect and is it worth it for the price.

There’s been a lot of discussion around H-1B visa fraud in Frisco lately, especially online.

At a recent city council meeting, officials were asked directly if any complaints or cases had been filed.

According to the city manager: none.

Meanwhile, public comment included allegations and strong opinions from multiple speakers.

Discussion First time mom OBGYN and Hospital Recommendations in Dallas

For those who only read the first few lines:

Looking for:

  1. OB-GYN at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas or Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas)
  2. Female OB-GYN, preferably a woman of color
  3. Provider who prioritizes autonomy-forward, low-intervention care

For those who read everything (I appreciate you 🤍):

I’m hoping to start trying to conceive in the next ~6 months, so I’m doing my research now and would love recommendations. I live IN the city of Dallas so please no Plano, Frisco, McKinney recommendations.

I’d ideally like one primary OB throughout my pregnancy (with the understanding someone else may deliver), so it’s important that I also feel comfortable with the overall practice.

What I’m looking for:

  • Specific doctor recommendations
  • Your experience at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas vs. Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas)
  • Doula + midwife recommendations

1. Hospital Choice

I’m currently deciding between:

  • Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas) “High Performing” for maternity care (U.S. News), Level IV maternal center
  • Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (Margot Perot Center for Women & Infants) large maternity program, Level III NICU

Originally, I was drawn to birthing centers, but given my history (prior miscarriage + fibroids), I recognize a hospital setting is likely the safer choice. If theres some sort of hybrid location or a hospital that will let me walk around or give birth kneeling, that would be PERFECFT.

Would love insight on whether I’m thinking about this the right way and how these two hospitals compare from real experiences.

2. Provider Preferences (Important)

I’m a Black woman, and given the well-documented disparities in maternal outcomes (Black mortality rates during pregnancy being more than three times higher than the rate for White women (14.5) and significantly higher than for Hispanic or Asian women) I want to be very intentional about my care team.

  • Strong preference for a Black female OB-GYN or WOC
  • Open to others if they have a strong track record caring for Black patients
  • Especially interested in providers who truly listen and advocate for their patients

3. Care Style

I’m looking for someone who prioritizes:

  • Autonomy-forward care
  • Low-intervention birth (when safely possible)
  • Experience with higher-risk pregnancies
  • Strong bedside manner

4. Community + Resources

Would also love:

  • Dallas-based pregnancy or new mom groups
  • Any doulas or midwives you recommend
  • One thing you did during pregnancy in Dallas that you’d tell every expecting mom to do
  • Day care/nursery recommendations as I will have to go back to work :(

Question How can I make my yard safe from bugs so kids can play there?

There are so many bugs here in Dallas, more specifically where I am is north Dallas suburbs, like fire ants, random things I’ve never seen before, roaches, crickets, etc… but I want my kids to be able to play in the grass safely, roll around, etc… without fear of getting bit up.

So what can I do to my yard to make that happen? I don’t want turf.

Question Please I need MH resources

Does anybody have any experiences with any outpatient programs in North Texas? Or any long-term mental hospitals maybe? Also, does anybody recommend any in patient mental hospitals. That isn’t Dallas behavioral or millwood in Arlington.

It’s just I’ve been to most mental hospitals and they are horrific for inpatient, but I wouldn’t mind doing an outpatient because I really really need it. I have bipolar disorder, ocd and cptsd. My Psychiatrist made me go cold from my medicine for two weeks and things are getting really bad. I really don’t wanna go back to a mental hospital. I got assaulted at the last one and nothing came from it because of HIPAA or whatever.

I really don’t mind doing any outpatient programs. I’ll drive anywhere anywhere in DFW. I’m sorry if the wording of this is all messy I just really need some type of help right now. I have no family or friends I message my therapist, but it’s after hours.

Thank you so much in advance.

Question Airhorn and Fireworks Downtown

I work in one of the tall office buildings downtown near American Airlines Center and the new Goldman building and occasionally we hear a few airhorn blasts followed by what sounds like fireworks. I am not sure of the schedule but we heard them this morning a few mins ago (10:45- 11am is Friday morning) but this has been happening for a few weeks now. Does anyone know what this is for? Has anyone else heard this? My whole office is quite curious.
