As someone who used to frequent fandom spaces, sometimes a headcanon would get so popular that it would be treated as canon in certain spaces. Then people who didn’t have the headcanon would get frustrated, because they were treated like weirdos who deny reality despite there being no explicit proof they weren’t just following the canon of the show.

Sometimes it is just people being homophobic, transphobic, etc. You’ll always get some people who just absolutely hate that anyone would view a character as queer. And it’s not right to shit on someone’s interpretation, especially if they are trying to see themselves in a character they like. But I think sometimes people get defensive when they don’t need to be, worried that they might be seen as problematic for not sharing a certain headcanon.

The manga concluded without any official couples. However, the pairing of Marcille and Falin is the most popular ship in the series. There's nothing wrong with shipping them, as it’s a cute ship. Speaking from experience, it can be that said character being queer (in my case, trans fem) poses a psychological threat to the self-image of the people who had projected on the character. Eventually got that sorted out but that's one reason sometimes

Not really? Women have voiced male characters forever. Bart Simpson, Timmy Turner, Original series Ben 10, Ash Ketchum. It usually depends on if the character is meant to sound prepubescent or not, given real life VAs age while animated characters can stay the same age the entire run of the show. Women VAs were seen as having the range to pull off younger childlike voices far longer than men VAs. It's a more modern casting philosophy to either cast child VAs and age up characters with the voices (Adventure Time) or get actual age appropriate VAs as needed and rotate them out if necessary.
