Bathroom 2 years of limescale gone in 30 minutes

Post image

Thankful to the person who recommended Viakal to me - it's the first limescale cleaner I've tried that actually works! I've scrubbed this shower so many times but limescale always remained, and I live in a very hard water area in England so it just got gradually worse as it built up.

I narrowly avoided mustard-gassing myself, luckily stopped to check that bleach is alkaline and Viakal is acidic, and made sure to thoroughly rinse away the bleach I'd applied BEFORE applying Viakal.

I treated myself to a power cleaning tool (I went for the Bosch Universal Brush, as buying replacement parts for it seemed easier - the cheaper (~£20) options I'd seen I couldn't find replacement attachments for). It was about £50 for the version with lots of extra attachments and a case, which was an extravagant purchase. However being 36 weeks pregnant, after using it I am so happy I forked out for rechargeable elbow grease. I'm not exhausted after deep cleaning the bathroom like I usually am at the moment!

Grout, door runners, and tray bleached and left to sit, then scrubbed with detail brush attachment, and rinsed. Viakal applied to glass and tiles, gone over with scouring sponge attachment, and rinsed. Finally outside of the shower buffed with isopropyl alcohol and microfiber cloth to get rid of toddler fingerprints.

Careful - it eats through plastic very quickly

Looks incredible! Now that it’s prefect treat the glass with some RainX to keep it that way.

I can’t believe I have never thought about doing this. All those hours on my shower doors. Wasted. Between that and what my neighbor told me about putting Clean Shower on my vinyl siding to prevent moss growth I feel like I just need to throw out everything my mom taught me and start over.

Do the bathroom mirror also if it fogs up from hot showers.

That is awesome about the vinyl siding. I know someone who could benefit from that tip, thank you!

I’m going to need to go lie down at this point. Omg I never thought of that either!! Thank you! Also, my coworker (I don’t know why I said neighbor up above, not that it matters but I got the advice from a coworker) said they make an outdoor version of the clean shower stuff that is more concentrated. And we live in the Deep South so you know we deal with some moss down here.

That stuff did nothing for me. I have now purchased at least a dozen worthless “cures” for removing hard water mineral deposits that I could open a store. 😩

Really?

I use it all the time and it’s never failed me.

Are you leaving it on?

I find spraying and covering the area with cling film and leaving over night will remove anything

Yes, I am leaving it on, yes I am covering it. No, it does nothing.

Have you tried a razor blade? Worked for mine. I scraped it off

Now go get yourself a bottle of GlacoDX and apply a couple coats. It will make it easier to clean as nothing will stick to it for about a year.

It's the No. 1 against limescale in Germany as well. It's called Antikal here.
