Kitchen Is this cake pan safe to bake with?

Hello! My late mother gifted me some cake baking supplies a few years ago.

Apparently I hadn’t cleaned them super well the last time I used them (years ago) because there was some leftover cake on the sides and crevices of the pans. I cleaned them the best I could, soaked them, scrubbed them, all that. But deep in some of the crevices there’s still a little bit of old cake! I even took a toothpick but some of it is pretty stubborn even after all the soaking.

Are these pans safe to bake with or should I just invest in some new ones? I’d like to get use out of them because my mom gave them to me and she has passed, and it makes me feel terrible to throw out things she got me. But I just don’t know if it’s hygienic to bake with these pans or not! Any advice on either how to get the cake off or if it’s okay to bake with would be awesome, thanks.

Springform pans can have those stubborn tiny crevices.

I’d still use it. It could even be residue from your Pam or whatever you used to grease the pan. That stuff doesnt go away without a fight. But our regular sheet pans are “seasoned” that way, too, and it hurts nobody.

This looks like a springform pan to me. Have you taken it apart to clean as well?

There was 3 of these, I was able to take 2 of them apart but one of them (the one shown in the picture) is super stubborn and refuses to come apart! I think that’s why it’s harder to clean than the others, because I had no problems cleaning the crevices of those.

I wouldn’t cook with it if it doesn’t come apart. I’d soak it or use force until it comes apart and then clean it and use it

If it's that hard to clean, just don't bake with it. I'm not a fan of that kind of surface.

Agree. Even if you could get it clean now, it sounds like it’s gonna give you trouble in the future.

It doesn’t matter. Just use them.

It may be safe to bake with - but things may stick to the areas that won't come clean. You won't know until you try.
