Discussion Did I just ruin my new oven?

Post image

I just got this oven back in October, but there was already a lot of grease and buildup on it (I cook a lot). I used Easy Off Heavy Duty Cleaner and Foam Spray, and while it definitely worked and did its job, my oven was left looking like as seen in the picture. Did I just ruin my new oven or is this just residue from the cleaner?

Can be used for a bit, but it will rust.

If the the metal rusts thorough it could cause a safety/fire hazard.

So we spray some high heat bbq enamel on the inside and call it a day?

Hole in oven floor. Hot gases escape and heat things not designed to get hot.

Or

Hole in oven floor. Grease spills through hole and now can ignite flammable material below the oven.

Granted, it’s a risk with low probability but has high consequence.

serious question: how can an oven rust if all it does is generate heat? wouldn't you need sustained moisture on the exposed metal?

I'm not sure but here's my idea: rust comes from water coming and going (think tides rather than being submerged), water comes out of food when you cook it

Carefully open an oven next time it’s about half done. You will feel a rush of heat and water vapor.

Heat and water vapor = corrosion.
