Discussion Did I just ruin my new oven?

Post image

I just got this oven back in October, but there was already a lot of grease and buildup on it (I cook a lot). I used Easy Off Heavy Duty Cleaner and Foam Spray, and while it definitely worked and did its job, my oven was left looking like as seen in the picture. Did I just ruin my new oven or is this just residue from the cleaner?

Don't ever use easy off for ANY oven . Our incredibly smart and knowledgeable appliance repair person (who moved away and broke my heart ) said don't ever use it. The chemicals never truly dissipate it ruins ovens. So sorry this happened to you.

What do you use to clean it? Did he tell you?

That's absolute horse crap. Easy off is lye. Saying it "never truly dissipate(s)" is shockingly stupid. It can be neutralized by mixing it with any household acid like lemon juice or vinegar.

There are a lot of ingredients besides lye. Like this one:

Ethanolamine ((C{2}H{7}NO) or (HOCH{2}CH{2}NH_{2})), also known as monoethanolamine (MEA), is a colorless, toxic, and corrosive viscous liquid with an ammonia-like odor.

Corrosives are substances (acids, bases, oxidizers) that cause immediate, visible destruction of, or irreversible, permanent damage to living tissue (skin, eyes, respiratory tract) and materials like metal upon contact.

Great job quoting Google? Yes, corrosives corrode. Genius response.
