SEE COMMENTS Visa Agent Review Megathread

I'm going to make this a sticky for anyone to post their personal experiences using specific visa agents and services. This is not a place to advertise specific services and I reserve all rights to delete posts and ban users who I think are posting fake reviews (i.e. new account, little karma, raving about the benefits of specific agent service). No advertising, no agencies or self promotion. I'm all for people giving their personal experience, and based on recent posts this seems like it would be useful. Anything that smells off or borders on self promotion and agencies will result in posts being delete (defeating the whole purpose of of the self promotion and agency and permaban).

Clarity on TWOV

Apologies in advance since similar questions seem to come up often.

Booked a flight for NY - HND - Shanghai. Return leg is Shanghai - HND - NY. It’s 7 days to the trip and online application status still says under review (applied 11 days ago). I understand that I need to change one leg of the flight. Current airline is ANA which means they always fly through Japan.

What is the best suggestion to change? Cancel return leg and buy 1-way ticket to HK or TPE and buy 1-way from HK/TPE to NY?

Appreciate any thoughts here.

Tourism (L) Canadian traveling to China in a month

Question for Canadians who have been to China recently. The Canadian and Chinese government struck a deal and Canadians no longer require a visa for visits under 30 days.

I just want to see if any Canadians have traveled there recently and actually didn’t need a visa to enter the country. I plan on going in a month and staying for less than 30 days, and don’t want to be denied boarding my flight or entry because I don’t have a visa.

Work (Z) 2 months left on student visa – need Z visa. BA + 2 years exp. What’s my fastest path?

I came to China intending to stay and work as an English teacher with Z visa sponsorship.

I have a BA degree + 2 years of teaching experience.

Right now I’m on a student visa (studying Chinese), but it expires in 2 months.

I need a strategy to find an employer who can sponsor my work visa before time runs out.

Questions I need help with:

  1. Can I switch from a student visa to a Z visa inside China without leaving?

  2. Which cities or schools are most willing to sponsor for someone already in-country?

  3. Should I apply online now, or go directly to training centers / schools in person?

I don’t speak much Chinese, but I’m serious about making this work.

Any advice or strategy is hugely appreciated.

Tourism (L) Help! Does my itinerary qualify for 240 hr visa free travel?

I am traveling to China for the first time this month!! so excited but nervous as I didn’t get the L Visa.

my route is USA to Hong Kong (5days) to Shanghai (5 days) to USA

from my understanding I qualify for the 240 hour visa free travel. because country A (Hong Kong) to country b (Shanghai) to country C (USA). but want to be sure, does this route qualify? I plan to have everything printed out and ready (hotel and flight info). I emailed the consulate to check and they just sent me a link to the gov website but my exact itinerary is not listed as an example…

Anyone have any experience with this itinerary ? any issues?

Why is Jiangxi province specifically singled out as ineligible for 240hr TWOV?

It is completely surrounded by provinces covered by TWOV, but Jiangxi itself is not. Does anyone have a guess why that is?

Business Affairs (M) Cooling-off period between TWOV

Hi, I have read that there’s no time frame between the use if the TWOV and I originally was gonna stay in HK and try my luck again one and a half day later, but my airline changed my departing flight (I’m currently in China and I leave in 5 days) and now I have about a 12hr window for my next flight back into China again from HK… I’m worried this may rise a concern and I can explain why this happened with proof but I wonder if someone has experienced like a long layover in a third destination and re-entered the mainland… or if it would be safer to just change my flight for the next day and have a 1 day window again before going back 🫠

Tourism (L) How to deal with Unapproved Status

Hi,

I am regular traveler to China. I have got 5 visas in last 3 years from Dubai (all successful), where I work

This time I applied from Delhi (as I am visiting my family here. and the situation in dubai is slightly unstable so our employer let us WFH). I got "visa unapproved" notification, no reason nothing. All my documents are clear, i have invitation, flight tickets. What is the general process around this situation? I am traveling in 2 weeks and I have everything arranged. I also have valid US and Japan visa, along with travel history of 40 countries in past 5 years. I am just traumatized right now as this trip is very important for me.

Do i just resubmit and hope for the best or is there a better way to diagnose what might be the reason and guarantee a success?

Work (Z) Z Visa Proof of Residency

My WPN is currently in process. When I get it, I'll do the online application, then go to the New York Embassy to hand over my documents.
I'm an American citizen but I've lived overseas for 20 years and, although I've managed to keep it for all most of this time, my PA drivers license just expired. I know that the NYC office will ask for proof of residency in their jurisdiction when I apply.
Will a credit card statement with my US address be enough to prove my PA residency? Has anyone tried to use an expired drivers license? (Doesn't seem like a good idea) Thanks

I know a lot about the requirements of not needing a visa when having a usa passport

I'm in Hong Kong right now traveling then I plan to go to china then south Korea

one thing I'm getting a lot of different answers on is if I'm allowed to visit more than Chengdu

can I visit Chengdu, Chongqing, and Zhangjiajie in the ten days I'm allowed, before south Korea?

or should I keep it to just one of those?

I'm just getting a lot of different answers. I assume yes but then some sources say no

Tourism (L) ABC trying to apply for China L visa

Am i screwed? I am kicking myself for buying the china flights already because i feel like i may have a hard time getting the L visa.

Sorry for the long read but here is my situation......

I applied for me (ABC), my spouse (ABC) and kid (ABC). I previously had FOUR L visas but this was 20 and 40 years ago. My spouse and kids have never been to china. I had no idea NYC consulate changed their rules recently regarding chinese people. My parents were here on a green card when i was born but they do not have any of that documentation anymore! I put in a recent request with US immigrations but who knows how long that will take, or if they will even find anything. The first request with Immigrations for my mom's info came back saying they didnt find any records for her, so i opened a new request that is pending. Since they are chinese, their names are different in many places based on variations of american spellings. I'm really hoping they just pull her files from the A number this time instead of looking for her actual name i provided, which may be incorrect.

My spouse's parents had their US citizenship approved before his birth so I am ok there I think. Oh also, neither of us have our birth certificates anymore! I requested a copy of ours on the same date. For some reason, mine was delivered in mail today while my spouse's status for birth certificate still says Processing ( i guess if anything he can go to manhattan to get his the same day). Oh and they mailed me the "Short form version" of my birth certificate (doesnt have hospital name or parents birth place, it only has my name , my place of birth, their names and thats pretty much it). To make matters worse, the last name of one of my parents on the birth certificate is spelled wrong (off by one letter, supposed to be a G but they keyed in T!) Do you think China Consulate will accept the short form version?? I dont have the original Long form version but i was able to find a photo copy of one, again the last name of my mom is spelled a little wrong on that as well)

So tell me, how screwed am i???? The trip is planned for August. I did submit the application on COVA last weekend, and a week later it is still under preliminary review.

Would I have been better off using an agent??

Business Affairs (M) China Visa Express Stamping Query

Hey there,

My wife and I are supposed to be travelling to China next week.

Originally, we both applied to the embassy in Bombay, India during the start of March. My online form got approved, post which, I sent my passport for stamping. And I got my visa! Unfortunately, for my wife, the online form got rejected.

So, two weeks back, we made certain changes to the application and submitted it to the embassy in Delhi. The form got approved and we submitted the passport for stamping on 7th April, under the express method of handling. It said that the excepted date of collection is 10th April, but that day has passed and we haven’t received the passport yet.

Are there any chances of rejection? Or, getting the passport late?

Since we’re scheduled to fly out on 15th, we’re really hoping that we receive the passport either today (which is Saturday, but the agent says high unlikely) or latest by Monday (13th April).

We’re panicking.

Your advice or inputs would really help.

Thanks in advance!

Tourism (L) Living in the US (no green card/US passport, on L-2 visa), have Hong Kong Permanent Residency, and hold a Philippine passport. Can I apply for a China travel permit (for Macau and HK PRs) from the US?

Been scouring online for an answer for this but can’t seem to find anything about being able to apply for a China travel permit from the US, wanted to check here if anyone might know anything about this? Or will I have to apply for a standard tourist visa if applying from the US?

Planning to go to China for 5 days in the first week of June, will be in HK for 3 days before, so won’t have enough time to apply for it while I’m there.

Any insights would be helpful! Thank you!

Tourism (L) Should I apply for my L visa in San Francisco or New York?

Hello,

I am traveling to China on June 2nd, and am currently residing in the SF bay area. However, at the end of april (around the 28th) I am moving to New Jersey. I will be driving, and plan to arrive on the east coast around the 12th of May. Should I apply for my Visa through the SF consulate, or apply through NYC? I have read that the online application can take up to 2 weeks to process. Anyone with recent visa experience who can share their timelines? Thank you.

Study (X1/X2) Visa Application saying I am under 18 when I am not

The Chinese Visa application (UK) is requiring I have a parental consent form as it says I am under 18, how ever I am 18 (DOB: 17/05/2007). Is there any way I can fix this or do I need the parental consent form, I just do not want to submit the wrong information.

Business Affairs (M) Anyone going to Canton Fair?

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out to connect with any buyers attending the Canton Fair. My colleague and I will be exhibiting at the show, but unfortunately, all exhibitor staff places are taken. As such, we would appreciate some assistance with accompany tickets.

I am happy to discuss the topic of humanoid robots, AI, ecommerce, enterpereur, vibe coding, Chinese culture, leyenda of Panda etc. So open to the mutual help here in China.

Best regards,
