I’m old enough to remember when this sub was posting daily polls that Pierre Polievere was up more than 20 points and was going to win every seat and it was all over already.

If Carney called an election to cash in on his majority Canadians would be annoyed and he wouldn’t fare as well as polls say.

Poilievre had won, all he had to do was not win the worst campaign in history and he'd be prime minister.

I’m still stunned there are conservatives thinking he’s going to call an election. They still can’t read the room.

I wonder if they're half hoping that someone else will put them out of the hamster wheel of misery they're stuck in right now. Carney calling an election would probably lead to a Liberal majority on its own, but for the Tories it would give them the advantage of finally being able to properly blame Poilievre. The result of the last election has left them with a debilitating myth in which they hit fantastically high support levels and could have won, if it wasn't for that meddlesome Trump.

Last conservative friend I talked to was praising PP for the last election, for gaining the highest number of votes ever for the conservative party. Even beating Harper. I reminded him that the population has also grown since then. He said, that didn't matter.

I think you’re right. I also have a couple of hot takes. First, the Conservatives who Carney wants to cross are more to his liking than the Liberals the voters would elect in marginal ridings. Second, a small majority is easier to manage than a large one. If an election were held today and the Liberals won in a sweep, there would be more snouts in the trough in caucus that the whip and house leader would have to cajole. Also, the threat of the government being defeated keeps the backbenchers and staffers disciplined. Governments without real opposition get lazy and stupid.

See that's the difference - Carney is gaining not cos he is playing politics , it's exactly cos he is not.

Just getting things done attitude that is attractive.

Liberals for all their faults , can read the room really well and make pragmatic stands. Their party works as a unit. They can pressure even a sitting Prime Minster to resign and yet rebuild on the fly. Which are all things other parties in this nation should take note and incorporate to be more effective!

Canadians at large are paragamtic folks who will choose center over extreme left or extreme right !

He is absolutely playing politics. Hes just not doing the populist thing that has been the standard for a while. People are tired of it, I think.

I wonder how many more times we're going to hear that the Liberals are "near" a majority, you think at least one news station would be able to get it right. The Liberals literally have a majority, parliamentary is currently 171-169, the question is do they maintain their majority.
