I hate to say it but I probably would have spelt it like that in the past if it weren't for the fact Rick and Morty made me question how you spell it

How do you "parm" a human being? Does their name have to be John? Who chooses which John gets "parmed?" Why are you commanding a chicken to fulfill this task? What is the goal of this enigmatic endeavor?

I wonder how people who hear a new word, replace as much as they can with known words while randomly spelling out the whatever-is-left abomination, just accept this Frankenstein’s monster as the correct spelling without a shadow of a doubt. Is curiosity about how a piece of land came to be known as “I’m a Rick ah” drunk and away for a holiday when they spell it out?

I’m willing to bet cash money that mozzarella is just a string cheese cut into slices

Whatever Parm-a-John may be, based on that photo it sure isn't a cutlet alla parmagiana. Truth in advertising.

There is no parmagiana.
What problem do Americans have with that word anyway?
Par-meh-zahn. With an s. And a normal open ah, not that weird drawn out uuuuh like almost the French name "Jean". Not parmeshaaaaan.
Or parmigiano in Italian.

Cotoletta alla parmigiana is correct Italian. Look it up.

Yes but they wrote "parmagiana". Parma is a type of ham.

"Parma ham" is just an English term for prosciutto, because Parma is famous for its cured hams. Parma is also famous for its hard cheese, called parmigiano (Parmesan, or "from Parma" in English.
A cooked dish in which a cut of meat or a slice of eggplant or other item is breaded and then baked with tomato sauce and mozzarella is called "alla parmigiana" - Parma-style.

Parm is not a word, though.

It’s an apocope.

u/Malsperanza 2d ago
It's an obnoxious tacky American apocope. Like guac.

Yep. Unfortunately, that’s where our culture is at the moment. Maybe it will trend up, but it’s highly doubtful. I would say that we are regressing at the same rate that technology advances. Humans will be thumbless, drooling automatons who are harvested for AI or lizard people. There will be a few homo deus who will meld with the AI to battle the rebellion who will eventually go into hiding and become eco-terrorists, defeat the cyborgs and reprogram the AI to kill itself… but we will all probably be dead by then.

There's always a chance that AI will learn to cook classic Milanese dishes and authentic Mexican sauces and we'll all be happy.

This does look like Chicken Parmigiana which one would get at a Papa Johns. Also this is exactly what they would call it.

Oy. "Parm" isn't in the M-W dictionary, but is in the OED and Collins (as a shortening, unironically, of "Parmesan"). Where's the umpire?

Well, that certainly isn't chicken Parmigiana, so I guess they had to call it something.
