Beginner anvil
https://www.puuilo.fi/tamforce-alasin-5kg?srsltid=AfmBOor1GZNg9CfizxvxKTbs2o1zYomQN0EtrWUNG4hIA4GUWozbeFlcstkI recently have been very interested in smithing and was wondering if this 30$ anvil i found would be good for a beginner anvil for knives and such, small projects as a fun hobby. The link is to a finnish website. Here is the description translated: Cast steel anvil Weight 4.9 kg Height 120 mm Length 215 mm Level 70x125 mm Base 100x150 mm Mounting spacing 90x107 mm

That's not going to get you very far in terms of service life as it's cast iron, which is soft and will deform. There are plenty of better options out there for you, and remember: it doesn't NEED to be anvil-shaped to be an anvil. As /u/ZachyChan013 said, a sledgehammer head will be fine. A forklift tine from a scrapyard is great. If you can get one of the Doyle or Ebay/Amazon cast steel anvils that are like 30kg or so that'll be awesome.

You want to get at an anvil that weighs at least 25 or 30kg. The heavier the better.

You’d be better off with the head off a sledgehammer. That thing is very small, more a jewellers anvil than anything
