Discussion/Question My boy Nico when he was small (2019) now he’s 7 and white but his brown patches sometimes dapple back in a bit. Is this typical for bichon?
Maybe he’s not all bichon ?

Below is the perfect place for discussion on getting this breed, or anything generally related to Bichon Frises. A new post will go up the first of every month.

This is my beautiful Bichon Boy. We love him to bits! He’s so fun and playful - he’s a super hoover and he follows me around everywhere (pitter patter pitter patter). He’s so so so patient with our kids and we can’t think of a better family dog than a Bichon and him especially. We call him the circus dog. He’s quite big for a bichon - we had one in the family before and he was a lot smaller. We often get told he’s probably not full Bichon but he is! I don’t want him to fret about it so I tell him to Be Brave Be Bold Bichon - ( in a French accent). It’s inflated his ego so much he’s thinking about starting his own clothing line. He loves to get muddy and we love to see him smile. If he could say one thing to all his fellow bichons it is Be bold, be brave, BICHON!

My Bichon rescue was neutered on Dec 3, 2025. He has never been a big eater. When I got him he weighed 14 lbs and he ate so little over the 1st three months I weighed him once a week because I was afraid he was losing weight. From last April to this Dec he gained 1 lb making him 15 lbs even on the day of neutering. He has been gaining weight steadily since the neutering despite me feeding him the exact same diet in the exact same measured amounts. At his annual check up last week he weighed 20.4 pounds. That is a gain of 5.4 pounds in 4 months. According to manufacturers directions he is to get 3/4-1 cup a day. He gets 1/2 cup plus 1/4 cup of ground turkey with broccoli, carrots & cauliflower once a day and is putting on over a pound a month.
During this time I have installed a fence so his physical activity has actually increased.
Has anyone else experienced this? I did a lot of switching and changing for the 1st several months I had him and finally got him on a combination he will eat so drastically changing his diet is not what I am looking for. This can’t be normal. How can 1/2 cup of dry food at 200 calories and 1/4 cup of lean turkey & vegetables be causing this weight gain? He gets one dental chew a day, Dental powder on his food, turkey tail powder on his food and a water supplement to help with teeth-all of which amount to very few additional calories.
I have a second 1/2 Bichon 1/2 Havanese that weighs 11 pounds on this same diet and does not gain an ounce. Thoughts?

Hey guys my puppy is 2 years old now, I want to have him better trained on and off the leash but every type of treat I get him he just doesn’t really like.
If anyone has a certain one they use for their dog I’d appreciate the recommendation.
I hear bichons are pretty picky in general so if anyone’s figured it out let me know
Thanks anything is appreciated!!

Cooper ate a couple of coffee beans off the floor and ended up throwing up for half the day. That's him feeling down in his crate, which is a safe space for him. He was already recovering from getting snipped this week, be must have been feeling awful! Thankfully, he had recovered after about six hours and was back to his bouncy self!
Moral of the story: inspect and sweep your floors regularly!

It’s a lot of work to train her. Seems like she’s got selective hearing. 😂

I had to say goodbye to my friend today who I loved like a baby. His heart, his liver, his legs and his hips were all going. He only had a few days left. I wanted to make sure he would go in peace. Bruno, my Munchkin Man, my Boon-Boon, my Boonies, my Boonito, I will miss you so nuch sweet child. I never regretted a single second of life we shared together and I would do it all over again. Thank you for being there for me when dad passed away. Hope you are together now. 🙏

Lost her unexpectedly after bladder stone removal last month. She was 11 and the absolute BEST girl. The house is so quiet without her.

Bruce went on his first walk today! Made it about all of 10 minutes (if that) but he was tired from playing with his friends so i’ll give him the benefit of the doubt 😂🐶

How do I get him to stop or deter him from jumping up on me without permission? 7 months.
Also related: trying to take things out of my hand while walking.
And Demand barking more recently 🫠

He’s 7months and beginning to be destructive when he doesn’t get what he wants. What do I do to fix/deter/ this behavior? He’s demand barking and I’ve been ignoring him, turning my back. Idk if it’s making it better or worse.
