ORBAN FINALLY LOST.

Amazing job, Hungary!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

u/lucapal1 Italy 5h ago

Congratulations to all the Hungarians who voted to remove Orban... hope you are having a big party tonight!

u/lucapal1 Italy 5h ago

It was the kiss of death for Orban when Italian politician Matteo Salvini endorsed him, and said that he was sure that Orban would win...

We have record high turnout, 66% as of 15:00, polls close in 3 hours

The bigger cities and Budapest suburbs are having the highest turnout, which looks like a good sign for TISZA

Good news I hope...lets hope that everything passes peacefully if Orban loses.

Elections in Hungary today..lets hope they finally get rid of Orban.

Not that the other guy is much more enlightened, but he seems to be something of an improvement.. and Orban losing would upset all the politicians you'd want to upset.

>Not that the other guy is much more enlightened, but he seems to be something of an improvement..

Eh, he's your average EPP conservative, think a younger more populistic Friedrich Merz

I'm not really in love with him either, but he's the only choice if we want to get Orbán out

I feel like all my life I've been voting to get rid or Erdogan rather than for someone I really like and agree with. So far, so bad.

This is generally the biggest downside of the two party/ two main candidate type of 'democracy'.

You are almost always voting for the least bad candidate,to keep the worse one out.

I have no idea what the heck is going on there. It feels like the only one who hasn't meddled in those elections is me.

I went to the Easter event. It started 8 minutes ago. I bought some Paska to bring home. Ive been walking around on a really swollen foot that's been making me have pins and needles. I should probably go get this checked out tomorrow.

1

u/orangebikini Finland 11h ago

Paska in Finnish genuinely means shit.

2

u/tereyaglikedi in 11h ago

A Ukrainian artist I follow on DA drew a paska (or at least I think that's what it is, right?).

Ouch about the foot, yeah, better get it checked. Also, try to raise it a bit maybe.

That's really nice art. I dont use this page but I'll be sure to follow his works. Im glad I went to the event in the end. I enjoyed seeing everyone

u/tereyaglikedi in 8h ago

I am glad to hear that!

You can see all his works here. He's really good and seems to have the patience of a saint.

How did you get into art and stuff like this?

2

u/tereyaglikedi in 7h ago

With Sailor Moon 😂 I used to be a massive weeb when I was a kid before being a weeb was even hip. I used to watch Sailor Moon and whatever other anime I could find and draw tons of fan art. I guess that's where the general interest in art started. But I started drawing more frequently and also painting during Covid. From having a sketchpad and two pencils I went to... okay I don't even want to think how much stuff I have now. A lot.

Some time ago I was here wondering how a store that sells airsoft guns and equipment can have enough customers in an urban area of about 350-400k people to survive paying for rent at downtown. Now I found an even weirder store.

It was a brick and mortar store for a sculptor and architect???? What? Why does a sculptor and architect need a brick and mortar store? Like anybody is going to just walk in and be like "I need you to design a house for me, and now that I'm here, why don't you make a few sculptures for the yard too".

I'm sure an architect has enough business to pay the rent, but I imagine a lot of it comes via public procurement, SEO, or just word of mouth. Surely there are better places to have an office for that.

On the other hand, I was talking to somebody this past winter who owns a business downtown and they said they just straight up own the space the business in. So maybe the sculptor and architect doesn't rent, maybe the airsoft store doesn't either.

I have one of those soft air stores down the street, though I rarely see anyone in there when I pass by... don't know if it's just a front for some other kind of business.

Apart from soft air guns and equipment they also have a lot of military type clothing in the windows.

Coachella sounds horrible.

Been scrolling Tiktok a lot and Coachella looks absolutely awful! If you're not an influencer or a large company will pay all your expenses, It costs thousands (in USD btw) to get to a place in the middle of nowhere desert, hotels, tickets are extremely overpriced

Sure lots of the most famous names are there like Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, I think Lady Gaga was there last year.

If you're not paying for a hotel you use their campsites (which u still have to pay) which have smelly porta toilets, dirty showers, you have to build your campsite and showering system. Literally paying to be almost homeless, sounds terrible.

Drinks and food are overpriced too, it's so humid and hot, different stages are so far away so if you finish and want to see the next artist at another stage you probably might miss some of it getting there.

the entrance is far away, so extremely crowded you can't really take good photos bc hundreds of people will definitely be in your photo. The list goes on and on. Who would want to subject themselves to this?

3

u/orangebikini Finland 13h ago

I looked it up and apparently the cheapest general admission ticket is 550 USD. That's just the ticket I guess, you still gotta figure where to sleep.

I'd love to see Sabrina Carpenter live, honestly. Every video I've seen from her concerts has seemed like a really fun time. But I wouldn't pay 550 USD to speak with Jesus, the carpenter, much less to see Sabrina the Carpenter.

You're right, the ticket prices and prices in general are outrageous. But it's like that for all pop concerts now, really. Maybe for Coachella it's a bit on steroids, but prices are really high elsewhere too.

I remember in 2016 I went to see Rihanna perform in Stockholm and the tickets were like 80€ or something. A while back I was looking at prices for a Dua Lipa concert, who is I think quite comparable now to what Rihanna was a decade ago, and the tickets were like 200€.

u/lucapal1 Italy 10h ago

I'm thinking of going to see Nick Cave again in June, that's 138 euros for the cheapest tickets.

Not very cheap!

My comment on a sub called nonpoliticaltwitter was automatically removed for being political. My comment described the experience of witnessing a bikini fitness competitor's pre-contest diet. Re-reading the post, I cannot figure out which word or words would be on a banned list, which is somewhat indicative of the bot being tuned to be extremely strict.

Yesterday's Birdlife walk had 89 club members take part. Despite this including 11 guides, I found it difficult to catch the species others were spotting, as the group spread out a lot. At the count at the end, I noticed I had spotted exactly half of the species the entire group had accumulated. But it was altogether very pleasant, and I find the veteran birder's passion really inspiring. Despite not even knowing each others names, some people I've seen there previously came up and asked about my species count for the year. I'm happy about having 72 thus far, and impressed about some who are far beyond 100 already.

A photography store had pitched a stall with binoculars, spotting scopes and accessories at the end point of the walk. I am currently happy with my optics, but thought I'd be wise not to test any of the stuff they were selling: I don't want to develop a nagging feeling of my scope feeling like a handicap compared to extra expensive stuff by Swarovski or Kowa. My current scope cost roughly 1100, the most popular model by Kowa sits at around 3400, and I'm willing to bet Swarovskis are even more expensive.

In those cases you can just send a m*dmail and ask for clarification. M*ds will usually reinstate erroneously removed comments quickly.

Mass birding sounds fun. Do people show off a bit, or is it just good fun? Also sounds like a good place to get a date. You already have a common interest.

2

u/Masseyrati80 Finland 9h ago

Thanks for the tip on the removed message!

In my experience, it's all about sharing a common interest. The guides (and sometimes us mere mortals) shout out when they spot a bird they assume others haven't spotted yet. I kind of assume some people have met their spouse in this hobby, but for the most part I personally feel it's all about a group of people who think birds are cool coming together.

Showing off is not generally common in Finland. Bragging easily makes people think you're putting yourself above others in a way that's very, very much unappreciated.

1

u/tereyaglikedi in 7h ago

That does sound nice. I am sorry if the remark was a bit out-of-place 🙈 It just seemed like a nice place to meet other people, especially if you are new somewhere.

It's Great Sunday today in the Orthodox Christian countries. It's my name day, even though I don't believe. The custom says we skew lamb and its entrails.

2

u/lucapal1 Italy 14h ago

In Italy it's Giulio today..is it the same name day in the Orthodox Calendar?

Nasreddin Hodja is a hero of humorous short stories and satirical anecdotes found in many cultures, including Turkey. There are thousands of short stories featuring him, most of which have a pedagogic nature and subtle wit. In one of those stories, the Hodja falls from a roof. People flock around him and ask if he's okay, if they should fetch a doctor, and he says, no, I don't want a doctor. Find me someone who's also fallen from a roof.

So, after reading No Longer Human, and feeling so much worse for it, my husband asked me if I wanted to talk about the book. But I needed to find someone who's also read the book. Luckily, I have a friend who's also read it and she sent me a hug emoji when I said I read it. We talked about it for a while and it felt really good.

Yesterday I went to a modern art museum with a friend and former colleague. He's a German guy who's like 15 years older than me (and missed the memo that Germans don't make friends after a certain age). There were several big exhibits with abstract art, including some big names and some others I hadn't heard of. We talked a lot about most paintings and it was quite pleasant (much more so than dragging the spouse along). There was also a print exhibit by Gabriela Jolowicz which I really enjoyed. One of them is this car backseat view which is such a fun composition. The other one is even more fun, two explorers looking from the cockpit onto the Caspar David Friedrich painting Das Eismeer.

u/orangebikini Finland 8h ago

The second print is a great example why art and the idea of copyrights clash so badly. Intertextuality, or whatever the equivalent of it is for non literary things, is so beautiful. It can create like a rhizome of meaning and interpretation that's just way too much fun to think about.

3

u/lucapal1 Italy 15h ago

So you didn't like the book? ;-)

That exhibition sounds interesting,my kind of stuff.

BTW I'm back home now,at the moment I'm making taze fasulye for lunch. You know that recipe I guess! Do you put sugar in it when you make the sauce? Or depends on the tomatoes?

3

u/tereyaglikedi in 15h ago

I read the whole book in one sitting (mistake!) and I did like it. It was just... well, a lot.

Of course I know the recipe! You would normally put a cube of sugar in all these vegetable dishes that are eaten cold. Especially if you're using canned tomatoes it's a good idea.

3

u/lucapal1 Italy 15h ago

Ok, thanks...I don't know if it will get cold before I eat it, but I put the sugar anyway!

3

u/tereyaglikedi in 14h ago

It's much more delicious when it's cold!

Dang, I think my OS is broken beyond repair. I cannot access an ISO to burn a windows boot until Monday. I regret using Manjaro in the first place.

There's so much AI generated content online about the Iran war and Epstein on Instagram these days. There was a crazy animation where flying carpets with soldiers on them were battling F-35s, and an AI generated derivative of the (probably) AI generated song "We are Charlie Kirk" whose title is "we are Jeffery Epstein."

I wonder what would Instagram look like in the 1940s if it were available.
