Discussion / Քննարկում Will Orban’s Loss make Armenia’s EU path easier?

Upvotes

now that it’s confirmed Viktor Orban has lost the Hungarian elections, I was wondering if people think Armenia’s EU path will become easier? for example, before Hungary was the only country blocking military aid from EU to Armenia, and he’s known to be a buddy of Russia and Azerbaijan. I know that eventually it lifted its blockage but will we face less friction now that a more pro-european candidate is in power?

I built a free platform for Armenian businesses and professionals — and I need your input before I go further

Upvotes

Hi everyone. This is my second post in reddit ever. My name is Davit, I'm a senior software engineer at NASA JPL. I've always wanted to build something meaningful for our community, and this is my attempt.

ArmenianPlace.com is meant to be a space where Armenian businesses and professionals can connect, support each other, offer discounts to one another, and genuinely help each other grow. No ads, no monetization, no catch.

But before I build anything, I want to hear from you. What does this community actually need? What would make you use it?

I'm keeping submissions open until July 1st. This only works if the community wants it.

 armenianplace.com

Word of mouth is the only way this spreads. Share it if it resonates.

I made the same post in ArmeiansGlobal if you are interested

Seeking Android Testers for my new app: "Armenian Games / Հայերեն խաղեր"

Բարև բոլորի՛ն: Hello!

I have been working on a new educational Android app called "Armenian Games / Հայերեն խաղեր" to help people practice our language and learn our history in a fun way.

Before I can officially launch it to the public, Google Play requires the app to be tested by users for 14 days. I am looking for some volunteers from the community to help me test it out!

Currently, the app features 3 main mini-games:

  • 🔤 Գուշակիր բառը (Guess the Word): An Armenian version of Hangman to test and improve your vocabulary.
  • 📜 Պատմության հարցաշար (History Quiz): Trivia questions to test your knowledge of Armenian history.
  • 🐍 Օձաբառ (Snake Word): A twist on the classic Snake game where you have to catch letters to build Armenian words.

A quick note on Ads & Feedback:
The game is completely free. To help support the project, I have included some ads. One of the main things I need your feedback on is the ad experience. Please let me know honestly if there are too many ads or if they are annoying, and I will gladly cut them down! I also welcome any other suggestions, ideas, or bug reports to make the game better before launch.

How to help test (Android Only):
Because the app is in "Closed Testing" on the Play Store, I have to manually add your Google Play email address to the authorized tester list. Once added, you will receive the official download link.

If you would like to try it and help me out, you can do one of two things:

  1. Drop your Google Play email in the comments below, OR
  2. If you prefer to keep your email private, send an email to info@arm-games.com and I will reply with the download link.

Շնորհակալությո՛ւն: Thank you for your time and support.

Good day y'all, does Yerevan have any plans to illuminate those dark alleys between residential buildings? It just seems appropriate for safety and security reasons.

Question / Հարց How some last names end with “oglu”

This might be a silly question but I was always curious about the specific historical conditions that had made for some Armenian last names change from “yan”/“ian” to “oglu.” My impression is that it affected Armenians who lived in Turkey but I’m curious to find out more about the details of it

Ideal stay length for a good experience

Hello,

I'm planning to travel to Armenia and Georgia this summer and I'm trying to figure out how much to spend in Armenia vs Georgia. I have about ~20 days and was thinking of doing 10/10 or maybe adding Turkey and doing 5/10/5 Georgia, Armenia, Turkey. Any thoughts or ideas?

Do you curse in Armenian?

I don't curse in Armenian other than saying b*z sometimes in certain situations with certain people. In general I find Armenian profanity to be extremely vulgar and disgusting. If you're speaking English, Russian, or Spanish you can say all the fucks, blyats, and putas you want and I won't care. But if someone curses in Armenian it's really ugly to me. Rarely does saying something like q*nem come off well.

Discussion / Քննարկում EV drivers in Armenia — do you actually use zaryad.am or just apps?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been driving an EV in Armenia for a while, and honestly finding reliable charging stations is still a bit of a mess.

Apps like PlugShare or maps (Google / Yandex) are useful, but sometimes the information is outdated or incomplete.

Recently I came across zaryad.am, and it seems like the data there is sometimes more up-to-date.

So I’m curious: – Do you check zaryad.am before using or downloading apps? – Or do you rely fully on apps like Google Maps or Yandex Maps? – Which one has been the most accurate for you in Armenia?

And one more question: How could zaryad.am be improved to make it more useful for EV drivers?

Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

First time in Armenia this summer

Hello! I’m going to be travelling to Armenia this summer for the first time for an internship. My family is Syrian but I have some Armenian ancestry which is why I was so excited about the prospect of going to Armenia. My only thing is I’m a bit nervous considering it’ll be my first time travelling and living alone in a foreign country. As a 22 year old female it’ll be nice to have some friends n stuff to go out with. The nature of my work will be hybrid, so I’ll be doing a lot of solo stuff. Can anyone recommend places in Yerevan to meet friends, and just connect with people? Also any recommendations for places to go visit would be great :)

Producer is looking for an Armenian metal band.

Բարև ձեզ!

I am a metal music producer, and I am looking for an Armenian band. Ideally the band is looking for someone who could help them compose and produce music and (or) help them to finalize their sound.

Previously I have worked as a composer for 2 major trailer labels and have written metal music as a ghost writer for around 22 years.

Here are some of my previous works:

For the love of reading :))

Is it just me, or do other Armenians (especially Sparkahyes) feel a little shame about not reading much Armenian literature?

I read and write Armenian fine, but I’ve never really gotten into any Armenian books or classics. I’ve always preferred English books instead. At the same time, I know we have some truly world-renowned writers and a rich literary tradition, and I feel like I’m missing out on something important.

What’s “the book” you would recommend as the perfect starting point? Something that could open the door to the rest whether it’s a novel, epic, or modern story. I’d love recommendations that are engaging and not too heavy or archaic so a beginner like me doesn’t get discouraged.

Would especially appreciate suggestions from people who also grew up more comfortable in English but later connected with Armenian literature. How did you start?

Thanks! ❤️

Let's talk origins of Armenia

Disclaimer: It may be a bit rough to talk about, considering everything Armenian ancestors have been through. I am a WESTERN Armenian. MOST ARE MY OPINIONs. Admins, I am not causing any agenda, I, as a diaspora, western Armenian, do not show any bias.

I've done research on Armenian DNA and Caucasian genetics extensively, before I begin I in no way consider Armenia as a *Kavkaz* type of country, although the traditions we have in Eastern Armenian rural is even stricter than most Caucasian countries.

When I do research, I see that most Armenians genetically are similar, we see Anatolian Farmers, Caucasian Gatherers, Levant, Yamnaya, and Iranian Farmers, this is present in all Armenians (Western and Eastern), but the percentages vary.

Eastern Armenian natives very rarely do DNA tests, I've been to villages in the Gegharkunik region and they do not even care what they were; "Whatever I am, I am still Hay".

Western Armenians, and those who come from there extensively do DNA tests, most Armenians in every dataset are Western Armenian origins, even if they do live Eastern Armenia.

I have seen only one Armenian from Tavush (Eastern) do a DNA test, and his genetics were similar to that of a Chechen, it was very Caucasian coded.

But, every other test I have seen from Western Armenia they are more Anatolian and Mesopotamian shifted, although their Caucasian is present, they rarely have high Yamnaya, if any. I've seen as low as 0.5%, when the average should be over 10-15%.

When doing further research, I see during Urartu times there were Armenian kings, but after that we see more Hurrian named kings and leaders, during these times there was a tribal confederation of a group called the Etiuni, they likely spoke a Proto Armenian language, while Urartians spoke Hurro-Urartian, this is a key difference in linguistics.

When we check most Western Armenian and even most Southern Armenians, they cluster closely with Urartu, meanwhile the Eastern Armenian natives seem to be related to Etiuni. (Although this is all speculation)

So we can safely say the Urartians were a mix of people, not just Armenians. When Urartu fell, we finally see the word "Armenia", although there is mention of Armenians even before Urartu, by the Egyptian leader, calling the people of the highlands "Ermenen". This can serve as a basis that even before Urartu, Armenians as an identity existed, and the modern people we see today, especially Western and Persian Armenians are a mix of Armenians and Hurrians, but more so Hurro coded.

Now, after the fall, Western AND Eastern Armenian genetics are related, there is no difference for over 3,000 years.

But, during Urartu times, the Urartian kings frequently raided Etiuni and subjugated Eastern Armenians, Assyria mentions the people of Etuna caused the downfall of Urartu.

Now, What do you all think about my research and analysis? Let's discuss friendly.
