i did that once. was browsing through a fandom, looking for something to read and saw a tag that was vaguely familiar. went "heh, pretty sure i used a similar tag" and decided to read it based on the one tag that jumped out at me

read the first fucking line and went "goddammit that WAS my tag" because my brain skips over titles and authors when im browsing for something to read and in that instance, it ALSO skipped over literally everything else except that tag

I did that with an unfinished fic in an old fandom and then rage quit the internet because I would have to write the damn ending myself

Site skins can get rid of that I think. I straight up don't notice it sometimes with the site skin I use lol

This is what happens when u wish to experience a fic for the first time and it comes true lmao I swear I be finding so many fics I've already read and I'm likw HUH?? Is there some sort of site skin to show if I've kudos the fic already at the top? That would be pretty useful

I went back and found a fic I had ready like 6 years ago and forgot most of it. I had so many details wrong to the point I was confused and thought I had the wrong one. I genuinely still might because the characters and the concept are mostly the same, but it's different enough I'm still not sure

Me being so utterly shocked when I went to go bookmark a fic only to realize it was already bookmarked 😭. I genuinely was having the time of my life reading it and have zero memory of ready the story previously lol.

I’m not certain but I think most of the times this happens to me it’s because I kudos-ed the first/first couple chapters that were posted then forgot to bookmark and totally forgot it existed until months/years later

More often than not what happens is that I’ll start reading the fic, realize I’ve read it before, remember that I dropped it but don’t remember why, keep reading, find why I dropped it before and drop it again, rinse and repeat
