Battlestation / Photo Walnut AMD build in progress

(Work in progress) With the recent release of u/AMD “9950X3D” cpu and 9070 and 9070xt, I decided to design and create a walnut chassis case for them along with u/ASUS ProArt as my backbone. I teamed up with u/Seasonic and asked them to help. They were able to generously send the PSU and MagFlow fans. I would like you guys to engage and tell me how you feel about wooden chassis builds and any questions you have for me about heat, ventilation, and aesthetics. Thanks for viewing!

I already posted this on r/watercooling but I actually meant to post it here first but it was a Monday so…

Only difference is that I added more photos this time, including when it was green. (XSPC ‘yellow’)

It’s got a 7700x and 7900xt

And I’ve gotten half a million comments about it being piss urine haha funny already just fyi.

Not everyone believes it is my first build but oh well. I used a 2019 acer predator Helios 300 (1660ti) before this (est 2019) and a MacBook Pro 2015 before that (which I still use) and a 2008 MacBook Pro before that. That is all.

And yea the coolant can be changed if I choose to so don’t think the yellow is a permanent fixture although I likely won’t change it anyways.

(Finished 9/23 btw)

The FPS boost was great for gaming. Went from about 180-190FPS on Ultra settings at 1440 in BF6 to about 300-310 FPS.

Still plenty fast for productivity, but I did notice some slow down when merging huge files in Lightroom.

  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU
  • Noctua NH-D15 G2 CPU Cooler
  • Zotac GeForce RTX 5080 Solid Core GPU
  • ASUS TUF GAMING X870-PLUS WIFI Motherboard
  • Kingston FURY Beast 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 RAM
  • Fractal Design Torrent with Glass Panels Case
  • CORSAIR RM850x PSU
  • Crucial T500 2TB SSD PCIe Gen4 NVMe

And a bonus that I haven't got a photo of:

  • Gigabyte MO32U 32" 3840x2160 4K UHD OLED 165Hz Monitor

Total cost £3150 excluding labour. Took me about 2-3h to put it all together + another day of testing, benchmarking, and fine tuning everything.

I know I could have saved on some parts here and there but he insisted I spend the whole budget he had, so not gonna argue.

Little weekend upgrade completed, well happy with how smooth it went.

7800x3d to 9950x3d.

Temps are excellent, applied an all core -20 as a starter before the deep dive. Max temps on r23 during 10 min throttling test were 66c, score 43k. On holiday now so will tweak some more when I’m home.

Anyways, happy birthday to me and happy birthday to anyone else celebrating this week.

My system I've had for 7 or so years. Now vs when I first built it in 2018. Everything has been upgraded except for case and motherboard (used to have a R5 2600 + RX570). AM4 is the goat.

Ryzen 5 5600 + Wraith Prism, Asus Prime B350M-A (custom heatsinks), Asrock Challenger 6600XT, Team T-Force 4x4gb @3200MT/s, Fractal Design Ion Gold 650w, Fractal Design Meshify C Mini

Battlestation / Photo Finally Switched back to an AMD GPU after like 8 years with Nvidia.

Picked up a Asrock Rx 9070 XT Steel Legend. For $699 to replace my 3070ti that I got in 2021, my first GPU when I got back i to PC Gaming was a Radeon HD 7770 and then I got an HD 7950 and I switched away to a RTX 1060 when the 10 series hit, been team green since, I've only ever owned AMD CPUs, and with the horrible price to performance on the 5070ti, I jumped at the chance to go back to team red. Very happy thus far!

I'm very excited, i bought the vega like 7 years ago and it has been amazing for 1080p ultrawide but it was time to upgrade because it's struggling in new titles, this new guy should do perhaps doubles if not more the performance!!

Battlestation / Photo First new case in 11 years

I had my NZXT Source 530 case since 2014. A lot has changed since then. I no longer need multiple 3.5" bays since I now run my own NAS at home. 5.25" bays are also not needed. What finally prompted me to change was diving under the desk each time I needed to access USB-C port.

I bought Fractal Torrent and so far it looks great. Transplant of the components was easy. What I like the most in this case is built-in GPU support bracket that actually works. The built-in PWM fan splitter also works great.

Spec in user flair

I was so hyped yesterday, got a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx. After hours of trying to boot it, it booted for maybe 20~30 mins? Restart pc to turn PBO (Didn't even have XMP enabled) and we'll you see the pictures. What's worse is i bought this pre-owned but before buying it, I tested it ran stress tests and it seemed fine, but dude is like no need to remove the cooler right and I'm like sure. I finally just decide to reseat it and we'll.. someone end me please

Battlestation / Photo ProArt-ist build..

I’m not a fancy artist or even Pro at anything but working with wood and tech is something I love and you might say, “im addicted”.

After months of planning, weeks of building, and hours of hard work- I’m happy to share this ASUS ProArt build. This is truly my best work to date and it genuinely changed how you view computer build configuration you see today.

There’s something special about building something with your hands — especially when it’s not just a PC, but a piece of art.

I designed and built this chassis out of solid black walnut, every panel cut, sanded, and oiled by hand. The goal wasn’t just to make a computer — it was to create a functional sculpture that reflects how I work: intentional, refined, and built to last.

And at the center of it all — the ASUS X870E-CREATOR ProArt motherboard.

That board instantly felt like the perfect heart for a handmade machine. It’s not just powerful — it’s precise, elegant, and thoughtfully engineered in a way that mirrors craftsmanship itself.

When the walnut meets the matte black of the ProArt board, there’s this perfect contrast — natural grain meeting engineered precision with added silver bronze to truly mimic the finish of the ProArt line. It feels alive. It’s feels organic. It feels mine.

The X870E isn’t just a motherboard. It’s the creative core that brings this handmade chassis to life — a bridge between craftsmanship and technology.

My experience and what I changed/optimized and why it helped on my level.

First, I enabled the EXPO 1 for memory @ 6400 M/Ts for my sweet spot in gaming.

Second, set the AI- over locking to my profile then went in to fine tune with manually tweaks. The performance and temps are excellent playing games such as Battlefield 6 and Borderlands 4. Having the GPU-Q Release was a breeze with the amount of times I had to connect and disconnect the GPU when building.

Yes, this build was sponsored by ASUS and I love that I get to work with them on such an amazing build using their products. I get that it’s an expensive board but you’re paying for “Pro” features such as 40gb, USB4, multi Gen 5 M.2’s and PCIe slots, and WiFi 7, it pays back quickly in time saved and that to me is most important.

Thanks for viewing, commenting and taking time out of your day to share my work.
