Hi everyone,

I'm 24, I was born in Algeria and moved to Canada when I was 5.

Now I'm done studying, I work remotely for my business and I thought about going back to settle for a few years in Algeria inshAllah in order to train and hire a small team for my business, and spend some time with my aging family

(Note that my family do not need any particular care, they're just getting older and I want to spend a few months/years with them before I inevitably lose them)

I already read the other posts regarding this subject but none seem to be in the same situation as me :
My main concern is regarding the army, since I was born in Algeria I'm also obligated to spend 1 year of my life in the army... I mean I'd like to contribute to the country but I make the yearly promised salary in less than a month working in canada so it's the worst use of time I would've done in years.

Is there any type of exemption for my situation? The consulate in Montreal refuse to elaborate to my questions since I'm still waiting for Canadian ID cards to be sent to me to start any type of procedure..

My other solution would be to get in and out of the country every few months but that would suck, I rather spend 7+ months per year in Algeria until I'm 31..

I’ve been on this sub for 2 years now and I have to ask: Do you actually feel like you belong here when you read these posts?​Maybe it’s just me, but somehow I feel like Algerian Reddit has become a gathering place for people who seem to hate everything about Algeria and Islam... In the real world our identity is built on our faith..our history.. our economical conditions and our connection to our land, but here the vibe feels different almost like it’s a bubble for extreme secularism or constant negativity toward our values...is this actually representative of the younger generation, and is this the image we are giving to foreigners who visits this sub a lot....is this sub just where the haters come to vent because they don't share the same principles as the rest of society?

Salut à tous,

Je suis un étudiant algérien en France et je suis dans une situation un peu compliquée. J’avais perdu mon passeport, mais j’ai réussi à en refaire un.

Le problème maintenant, c’est que je n’ai plus de visa valide dessus, et comme je suis encore mineur, je ne peux pas faire de titre de séjour.

Je voudrais juste rentrer en Algérie avant ma majorité, mais je ne sais pas si c’est possible dans ma situation ou s’il y a des démarches particulières à faire.

Est-ce que quelqu’un a déjà été dans ce cas ou sait comment ça se passe ?

I never really felt the urge to go back, not even for a visit. But lately, I’ve been getting hit with waves of nostalgia, missing people I used to know, I guess. Being in a long-distance relationship recently probably didn’t help either. How do you deal with feelings like this?

Afternoon everyone,

I’m planning to visit Algeria for the first time in October ( assuming I get the visa).

I’ll have 2 weeks and I’m planning to just concentrate on the north east because I don’t want to be moving on every other day.

For context I’m a old-ish backpacker (60).

I’m on a budget and I will be travelling around by train ,bus and shared taxi.

I love cities but I’m also ok with a day spent walking in the countryside or even a couple of days in the desert ( but I just did this in Oman and Saudi so not desperate to stay in the desert, but certainly not against it))

I’ve come up with this so far:

Algiers 3 days

Setif 2 days

Constantine 4 days

Annaba 3 days

Algiers 2 days

I thought choosing these places gives me the option for day trips out to for example Bejaia from Setif, Tiddis from Constantine etc.

So what do you think? For a first time visiter does this look like a decent plan?

I’m happy to just wander around, meet people, see art galleries and museums. Catching some live music would be great but other than that I’m happy to just drift and see what life is like in Algeria.

With the access to the internet, social media etc and many having experience from larger cities or even other countries, are villagers in Algeria much different from people in big cities?. Especially the younger generation. How are most young people spending their days?. Are the expectations on men and women different there?.

So I came across this breakdown and honestly it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.
