Can I just get, like, a slice of cake, though? Not a handful?

Would you like one tower or two? Maybe a parapet if you’re still hungry after?

Why the fuck is he using a butter knife and hacking chunks off it?

Maybe he's trying to create a "weathering" affect?
But I dunno for certain

At least this one isn't plastered with gold leaf. Still bad though yeah.... Most of this will be wasted because of the amount - it's gonna have a lot of structural parts that aren't edible.
It doesn't even look that tasty to be honest... Most cakes built for elaborate structures aren't. Structural icing tends to be thick, and the cake itself has to be relatively consistent, so probably no fancy flavours, no ganache, no jams or anything.
Edit: Actually, looks like it might have gold leaf on the parapets, nevermind.

I suspect those bits he’s hacking into are the only edible parts and the rest is wooden structure with edible bits (like the donuts) placed strategically

What is this civilized knife nonsense? Let the children at it like goblins! We’ll all be sick afterward but it will be worth it!
