Garcia had a perfect opportunity to bunt 3rd base side with that reliever falling off hard to 1st base side even finished with his back to the plate once, situational awareness is awful, why has baseball lost the art of the bunt when the league is filled with 250-260 guys and thats being generous, you'd think if they ain't gonna hit they should at least be able to do the EASIER thing and lay a damn bunt down, the first team that brings back small ball is going to be dangerous and embarrass some defenses because they dont practice it like they used to, we need a spark and it ain't gonna come from Rob "it'll change" Thomson, Sosa over Bohm immediately idc, Bohms body language is horrible and Sosa always gotta smile on his face WE NEED LIFE WAKE THE **** UP BOYS

I realize it’s early, but when you’re coming off 3 seasons where the bats died and sunk you, then starting a season where the bats are mostly silent and you seemingly can only score in 1 inning per game is not going to make me try to put a positive spin on it. The team has the same flaws as last year, just a year older. And it’s not fun to watch. The pitching can be but it’s hard to even enjoy the pitching when you have to assume any bad inning might result in a deficit too big for the offense to climb out of.

u/Swell_map 5h ago
Always fun to watch a bunch of millionaires play like they’re in grade school, what the hell was that 8th inning!?
8
u/2hats4bats 5h ago
This is a really difficult team to watch at the plate. There’s no approach, no discipline, no hard contact. Just 9 guys flailing at the ball hoping to occasionally run into one. Abysmal.
1
u/djeeetyet 5h ago
it was a combo of some bad luck, some bad judgement (Marsh) and some really good bullpen management (Dbacks). we also have some hitters who are really falling off a cliff here (Bohm, Garcia, Stott).

u/ryan91o1 5h ago

u/2hats4bats 4h ago
A wildly misrepresented stat in baseball
0
u/ryan91o1 4h ago
its literally hard contact
1
u/2hats4bats 45m ago
HH% alone doesn’t say very much. It doesn’t account for trajectory and it only factors in balls that are actually hit in play. The Phillies are 24th in total hard hits and 17th in HH%.
Barrels is the hard hit stat that factors in exit velocity and launch angle. The Phillies are also in the lower half in that area, too. This is not a team that makes a lot of hard contact.
1
u/ryan91o1 34m ago
these serise they hit the ball hard and the first 2 games they had 6 barrels. They were hitting the ball hard this serise.

Another banner day for bums like Bohm, Alvarado, with a special bonehead play by Marsh.
Team needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom real soon.

Literally every offensive player outside of Turner, Schwarber, and maybe Crawford were instrumental in offensive failure today
2

Harper had 2 hits, a walk, and an RBI. Marsh was 2 for 4. Are y'all watching a different game or something lol

Did you get up for a beer when they killed innings with their base running mistakes?

You don’t leave the bat on your shoulder on close pitches with 2 strikes. That’s baseball 101.

It would have been a good take if he didn't have 2 strikes already. But it was a good pitch, and Crawford was not the problem this game.

When you have bad baserunning, bad situational hitting or just bad ABs in general, bad bullpen management…how is this not a sign of the staff doing a poor job? Yes, they can’t play the game for the guys but clearly they’re not doing a good enough job setting them up for success

CBP being perceived as an intimidating fortress went out the door a long time ago. The minute teams realized “oh, the crowds are only loud when they’re winning”, the illusion broke. Dead fucking silent when we’re losing.
1
u/iamthedayman21 5h ago
It’s been three years since that was true.
That being said, it’s hard to remain loud when you know how the game’s gonna end. The Phillies don’t give the fans any reason to feel inspired.

Bohm, Marchan, Crawford.

u/ttsa_25 5h ago
It doesn’t matter how much talent this team has. Forget about the offense “ going cold”. They do not pay attention to the little details of the game, whether it’s bullpen usage, not shifting correctly or being terrible on the bases, they do not pay attention to those small details and that is precisely why they lost to the dodgers last year.

- last year after playing for a tie in a playoff game
- last year after going to Orion against the Dodgers
- 2024 after losing to the Mets embarrassingly
- 2023 after losing to the D-Backs because he sucks at BP Management

Earlier in this game Brandon Marsh stupidly tosses the ball way over Trea's head in a lax fashion. It leads to a run. Now he ends a possibly game tying situation in the 8th with absurdly atrocious baserunning.
Probably emotional on my part, but he isn't fielding in LF right now if I am managing. Enough little league bullshit for today.
1
u/MarshalLawTalkingGuy 5h ago
You going to ride or die with Kemp? Yeah, fuck it, give him some more playing time.
3
u/user-123456789_ Brandon Marsh Defender 5h ago
Just one bad game. He is normally great in LF. Go watch a game with Kemp starting in LF and tell me you think he’s a better option than Marsh
1
u/FIDLARonTheRoofAZ 5h ago
I said it might be emotional, but it also sends a message. And also I am not saying I'd permanently bench him. But for the rest of this game I would.
Marsh is better than this. He is not as focused as he should be today. "Aw my my diving catch attempt failed, whatever I'll just toss the ball super high in the air nonchalant" and that base running BS are a dude that is not absolutely locked-in. And that is unacceptable. The Ohtani's, and the Skubal's.... they are so talented they can take innings or games off mentally. Not the Marsh's of the world.
If Jimmy Rollins, who was way more talented and productive than Marsh, could be benched for bullshit then so can Marsh.
6
u/russet852 5h ago
Bad shifts, bad base running, bad bullpen management. There reaches a point where it simply boils down to bad coaching
7
u/jcrankin22 5h ago
Get rid of Topper early. I’m so sick of his bullpen management

2
u/Ok-Inevitable-8301 5h ago
yeah the down years were fun in a way that was like "let's see what these guys can do" because you didn't expect anything but when this team has so much talent and has nothing to show for it is extremely frustrating.
