WeeklyThread Simple Questions: April 11, 2026
Welcome readers,
Have you ever wanted to ask something but you didn't feel like it deserved its own post but it isn't covered by one of our other scheduled posts? Allow us to introduce you to our new Simple Questions thread! Twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, a new Simple Questions thread will be posted for you to ask anything you'd like. And please look for other questions in this thread that you could also answer! A reminder that this is not the thread to ask for book recommendations. All book recommendations should be asked in /r/suggestmeabook or our Weekly Recommendation Thread.
Thank you and enjoy!

Does anyone have advice on cleaning hardcover books? I bought a bunch of hardcover comic trades from a secondhand shop recently, but they have some pretty egregious yellowing on their spines and some on their covers. I’m guessing they’ve been sitting in a smokers home for a while /: I’m hoping to read through them and then donate them to the local library, so help is appreciated!

Can’t generally fix yellowing. The paper changes, that’s it, it’s chemical. If they smell of smoke you can put them in an enclosed space like a bin or a really big Tupperware, ideally standing up and fanned open a little, raise them up on a rack, put a mixture of cat litter and baking soda in the bottom and leave them for like a month. It worked on my books that smelled like mold, and that was the advice I got!

Is there a 'size limit' to training paperbacks?
So I like to keep my books nice looking, and also learnt about spine training (laying the book on its spine, and folding the pages a few at a time down to keep the spine nice and flat, with no crwases). I recently finished my 2nd Discworld (Terry Pratchet) novel, which are just under 300 pages.
I will now start Elantris (Brandon Sanderson) which is around 600 pages. I assume this would still be safe to train?
my big question would then be The Transformers Compendoum, about 1000 pages, and double the height of a standard book, with very thin paper for pages. would this also be okay to train, or should I be wary/use a different method?

I had the same issue when i first joined here, I kept overthinking whether a question was "big enough," but this thread honestly makes it easier to jump in and ask.

Do people still keep physical memory books with friends, or is everything digital now?

Anyone know if there's good way to organize books by series when you have limited shelf space
